Use Wall Designer to plan print sizes and spacing on a measured wall

Wall Designer is a visual planning tool. It does not order prints or send anything to a printer. Use it to decide what sizes fit before creating the actual prints.

Before you start

  • Measure the wall width and height.
  • Write the measurements in inches. Example: 12 feet = 144 inches; 8 feet = 96 inches.
  • Decide roughly how much space you want between frames.

Step 1 — Open Wall Designer

  1. Go to Wall Designer.
  2. The default sample wall is 144 inches wide by 96 inches high.

Step 2 — Enter the real wall dimensions

  1. Under WALL, click WIDTH (in).
  2. Enter the wall width in inches.
  3. Click HEIGHT (in).
  4. Enter the wall height in inches.
  5. The line underneath shows the approximate dimensions in feet.

Step 3 — Set layout rules

  1. Under RULES, leave Grid (foot lines) on if the 12-inch grid helps you judge placement.
  2. Leave Snap to gaps & edges on if you want frames to align more easily.
  3. Enter GAP (in), such as 2, for the desired spacing between frames.

Step 4 — Add a standard frame/print size

  1. Under FRAMES, click a size such as 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, 18×24, 20×30, 24×36, 30×40, or 36×48.
  2. The frame appears near the center of the wall.
  3. Add as many frames as you need.

Step 5 — Add a custom size

  1. Enter the custom width in the W field.
  2. Enter the custom height in the H field.
  3. Click Add.
  4. The custom-size frame appears on the wall.

Step 6 — Move a frame

  1. Click and hold the frame.
  2. Drag it to the desired position.
  3. Release it.
  4. With snapping on, the frame can snap to the chosen gap, wall edges, and nearby frames.

Step 7 — Select, rotate, or remove a frame

  1. Click a frame to select it.
  2. Under SELECTED, click Rotate to swap width and height.
  3. Click Remove to delete that frame from the layout.
  4. Click empty wall space to deselect it.

Step 8 — Read the measurements

The top of the wall canvas shows the number of frames, the current visual scale, and the percentage of wall area covered by frames. Frame hover/position information can help you reproduce the layout.

Step 9 — Export the measured layout

  1. Click Export layout (JSON).
  2. Your browser downloads a file named wall-layout.json.
  3. The file contains wall width/height, gap, and each frame's size and x/y position in inches.

Step 10 — Print the layout

  1. Click Print layout.
  2. Your browser print window opens.
  3. Print the planner or save it as a PDF for reference.

Step 11 — Order the actual prints

  1. Write down the sizes used in the layout.
  2. Open the Live Print Studio.
  3. Create each physical print in the required size/paper/frame configuration.
  4. For a large multi-piece installation or custom sizes that are not in the standard creator, contact Olympic Prints with the layout.

If a frame will not move where you want

Turn Snap to gaps & edges off temporarily, position the frame, then turn snapping back on if desired.

Important

The colored rectangles are size/placement placeholders, not previews of your actual photographs. Wall Designer plans geometry; the Live Print Studio creates the actual print artwork.
